Colon Cancer Screening

Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer and the third-leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States in both men and women. Over the past 15 years, the death rate from colorectal cancer has decreased. There are several reasons for this decrease. First, polyps are being found and removed before they turn cancerous. Secondly, if a cancerous polyp is found early, it is easier to cure. Ninety percent of people whose colorectal cancer was found at an early stage are living five years after the diagnosis. Lastly, the treatment of cancer has improved. But once colorectal cancer has spread to nearby organs or lymph nodes, the chance of successful treatment is much lower. A recent survey completed by the Colon Cancer Alliance found that 7 out of 10 people age 50 or older still have not had a colonoscopy, primarily due to fear. The physicians and staff at Seaford Endoscopy Center and Nanticoke Gastroenterology will listen to your concerns and provide you with the information you need and the comfort you deserve to help alleviate these concerns. At Seaford Endoscopy Center, you can expect to receive personalized care before, during, and after your colonoscopy from our experienced staff of professional registered nurses, gastrointestinal associate technicians, and secretarial staff, board certified anesthesiologists, and Dr. Mackler, a board-certified gastroenterologist.
